FEXPA INDUSTRIAL S.A

1991-2024

HISTORICAL OVERVIEW

Fexpa Industrial S.A. was established in 1991 with the primary objective of leveraging its partners’ experience and knowledge in research, development, manufacturing, and commercialization of products for the foundry industry. From the beginning, the company focused on developing feeder sleeves with superior performance compared to those available in the national market.

In 1992, Fexpa sought government funding and received support from CORFO (Corporación de Fomento de la Producción de Chile) for a research project. During this process, Fexpa had significant collaboration with Magotteaux in Chile, receiving strong support from the company’s executives. Since the existing manufacturing techniques for feeder sleeves were protected by international patents, the company not only developed a new product (a chemical formulation) but also a manufacturing process, which involves pneumatic pressing and thermal curing in convection ovens at 200 °C.

The research concluded in 1993 with excellent results, allowing the company to begin production scaling. Fexpa was a pioneer in the national market by introducing high-performance Neck Down exothermic sleeves, driving technological change in Chile’s foundry industry.

Fexpa’s products were validated by major foundries in the national market and also received validation from important international companies such as Magotteaux Pulaski in the United States, AFI-Caterpillar in Ramos Arispe, Saltillo-Mexico, and Magotteaux’s plant in Monterrey-Mexico.

In recent years, Fexpa has intensified its research efforts, focusing on the innovation of higher-performance exothermic sleeves specifically designed to reduce riser size and decrease energy consumption in foundries. In collaboration with universities and research institutions, Fexpa has developed new chemical formulations that enhance the metallurgical performance of the casting process.

InnovaChile Committee Approves R&D Project

We are pleased to announce that on November 28, 2024, the InnovaChile Committee approved the subsidy agreement for the execution of an innovation project submitted by our company.

The project will be developed by Fexpa S.A. in collaboration with the University of Santiago, through its Department of Mechanical Engineering. With this research, the company aims to optimize the metallurgical performance of exothermic sleeves using both experimental tools and numerical simulation.
